J.R. Rain – Vampire for Hire

This series follows Samantha Moon, a wife and mother of two, who was attacked by a vampire six years ago and is now a vampire herself. She tries to maintain her lifestyle and work as mother and a private investigator out of her home. Her husband isn’t very supportive of her vampirism. He is actually sickened by it and afraid of her.
I thought that this was going to be a really cheesy series but it surprised me. I ate it up. Samantha Moon’s character is smart, funny and down to earth. I like how she tries to in touch with her human side even though she is becoming a powerful being.
The books are a balanced mix of humor, serious emotional struggles along with action and fighting against evil. I enjoyed the series so much that I started reading J.R. Rain’s Jim Knighthorse series but I am not including those books because they are not paranormal or urban fantasy.
One other great thing about the author is that she lives in the Pacific Northwest!
